I’ve lost count of the days, but yesterday I made a very nice pot of coffee with our new syphon coffee maker. Kevin made a nice movie of me making a nice pot of coffee with our new syphon coffee maker http://vimeo.com/21297526 Then we each had a nice cup of coffee. So smooth…..

I think I’ve lost track of the days. Pretty sure I missed yesterday.
Today I spent some time working on a short story and making a few notes. I’m having a tough time plotting out the logistics. It’s a sort of Christmas-themed story, or at least it takes place at Christmastime. It’s hard to think about crime and mayhem on these beautiful spring days. I’m at the point in this story where it’s just pure frustration because I can’t get past a plot problem. Maybe if I take a nice, long hot shower–sometimes I get an idea when I do that!

The quilt pieces from the last post are now sewn into quilt blocks. Next step is to assemble them. I’ll need to clean the floors so I can have a place to lay them all out and move them around to get the nicest lay-out. Pleased with how they look so far. This one’ s a bit more subtle than my rock ‘n’ roll quilt.

Cut a bunch of quilt pieces for a special (secret) quilt I’m working on. Finally getting the hang of the rotary cutter after cutting many pieces and leaving raggedy edges. I don’t know why, but I just love looking at all those small uniform pieces.

Planted some herbs today. I love to plant herbs and feel hopeful that they will survive to be used for cooking though they hardly ever make it. I definitely don’t have Nanner’s green thumb. But it makes me feel good to plant them anyway. Love these little planting “puck” things. Glad someone invented them. They look like a hockey puck and when you put them in water they swell. They’re held together by a netting that dissolves eventually so you can plant them right into the ground or a planter. So here’s hoping in a few weeks we’ll have some fresh herbs to cook with…maybe if I sing them a lullaby everyday, maybe then they’ll grow straight and tall.

Lent Make-A-Day 2011, originally uploaded by BrynnB.
Okay, I’m starting off behind. Missed Day One, but I did go to Mass and get my ashes! Wrote in my journal a bit about the fact that last year when I went to get ashes I saw myself in the mirror when I got home and thought of Squeaky Fromme and the rest of the Charlie Manson girls with my bald head and that smudged emblem on my forehead. Am SO grateful to be in a different place this year as Lent begins!
Making squares for a very LOUD rock ‘n’ roll quilt. Hope to finish this soon and have my two 90+ year-old aunts quilt it for me. They’ll have to wear sunglasses. Theme more important to me here than having the colors be harmonious–obviously.

Been wishing for days (weeks?) I could get my desktop cleaned off and move myself back into my study to work. Finally got it done tonight. And, why yes, I did simply take all the stuff and dump it into the box there on my office chair. I’ll try to go through the box over the next few days and put all the stuff where it belongs, but for now I’ll enjoy that long expanse of junkless desktop!
This is a lesson I need to learn. I put off tasks until I can do them stem to stern, which often means they don’t get done at all. It’s okay to tackle tasks a little at a time and sometimes it’s the most effective way to get them done. Big blocks of time are hard to come by.

I was late getting my 2010 Calendar and there were slim pickins at the store. The only one I could find with the right layout was PINK…not my favorite color. So tonight I got out some stamps, a stamp pad and some Sharpies and doodled it up. It didn’t turn out exactly as I had envisioned, but it’s still an improvement over the Pepto Bismol pink!

The bananas were going bad, and besides that (and as Dave Barry would say, I am NOT making this up), tomorrow is National Banana Bread Day.

I added almonds rather than the chocolate chunks this particular recipe called for. I don’t like chocolate IN things. I’m a purist on that score.

Am longing for spring when things get planted and even more for summer when the tomatoes and basil for this will be straight out of Bobby’s garden. Hope he can find a connection for some more of those Heritage Tomato plants again this year–or that we can get the few fragile seeds that I saved from last year’s to grow. And by WE, I mean Farmer Bob. I had no luck last year except with a few of the herbs. I’ll put in a lot of herbs this year, but I give up on tomatoes. We have no little patch of sunshine for the poor plants!
But even with hot house tomatoes and basil from a plastic box this tastes pretty doggone good! A Saturday night simple pleasure!
